2015 Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) in Toyama

The annual Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) was for 2015 hosted by Japan in Toyama and marked the 25th anniversary of the International Arctic Science Committee. A larger delegation of approximately 40 Norwegian polar scientists, research managers, students and policy makers attended the event, with the conference on April 27-30 as the main happening.
The Norwegian Embassy, in cooperation with the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR) of Japan hosted a Japan-Norway networking event for 65 participants with the objective of strengthening research cooperation further.
Joint research activities are developing, particularly in the Arctic and the event gave an opportunity to discuss existing projects as well as new initiatives. Norway’s Chargé d'affaires Mr. Bjørn Midthun expressed in his welcome remarks an appreciation for Japan’s commitment for their presence at Svalbard and support in various infrastructure projects in the Arctic
