“Norway is also here to help”
Norwegians in Tokyo gathered at the Embassy to celebrate Constitution Day, this year mindful of the suffering and destruction caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Ambassador’s article in the “Japan Times”
on the occasion of the Norwegian national day focused on Norway’s preparedness and measures to contribute to relief and reconstruction in the disaster-struck areas.

Letters of condolence from H.M. the King, Prime Minister, and the President of the Storting
Right after the earthquake and tsunami in March, condolence letters and offers to help were sent to the Japanese counterparts by H.M. King Harald, Prime Minister Stoltenberg, the President of the Stortinget Andersen and others.

“Hope for Japan” - support activities in Norway
Waves of assistant activities in Norway to help and support victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in the form of charity concerts and donations.

5 500 school bags to school children in Miyagi Norwegian
Save-the-Children donated 5500 school bags with books and writing material to children in Ishinomaki-city, which is one of the most hardly affected areas by the 3.11. earthquake and tsunami.

Terje Isungseth concert in Japan
Terje Isungseth returns to Japan to give concerts in Tokyo and Kasama. 27, 28 May

Martin Watson Exhibition “LOVE”
Norwegian artist Martin Watson will have his first solo exhibition in Japan, at Gallery Kawamatsu in Tokyo. Watson will be in Tokyo for the exhibition, and give live painting performance prior to the opening. 31 May – 4 June

Travel seminar by Nettravel
Travel bureau Nettravel launches monthly seminar starting in May to solicit general interest towards travel to Nordic countries. The first four seminars will be featuring Norway. 18 May, 15 June, 6 July, 24 August

 Monthly movie night at the embassy Screening of “Norwegian Ninja” in the Arctic Hall of the Embassy.
26 May Gender equality seminar in Yamanashi Seminar on gender equality with Norwegian model will be organized in Tsuru-city and Kofu-city in Yamanashi. Ms. Mariko Mitsui, researcher on Norwegian gender equality will be the speaker. 4, 11 June

Nordic Design exhibition in Asahikawa
Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum hosts an exhibition featuring masterpieces of Nordic modern design. A collection of modern design furniture and household items from the Nordic countries incl. Norway will be exhibited. 1 June – 3 July

Norwegian products available in Japan – “Trol l Doll”
Monthly pick up of Norwegian products available in Japan. This month features “Troll Doll”, one of the popular souvenir items from Norway.

 Notice – postponement of Toru Takemitsu Composition Award concert
The concert originally scheduled on 25 May is postponed till 17 January 2012, due to the affect of the earthquake. Young Norwegian composer Jan Erik Mikalsen has been selected as one of the four finalists.
